Typical, you are watching a video or movie and at the best moment, the image freezes. Once again your internet has failed! “But I pay for a good speed service”, you say to yourself… Probably, your internet speed is not being optimized. Read on to find out how to measure it and know if you are using all the capacity you are paying for.

Many factors can cause your internet speed to be less than optimal, affecting your browsing on your different devices: laptop, tablet and cell phone. And we know, now more than ever, having a fast internet is key to increase your productivity, communicate with your loved ones or simply entertain yourself.

Learn how to measure Internet speed at home

Before measuring your Internet speed, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you are not downloading, or have many tabs open in your browser.
  2. If possible, restart your device before performing the measurement.
  3. Restart your modem and router
  4. Clear your browser cache

Time to measure your Internet speed!

Doing it is very simple! On the web there are thousands of sites that allow you to make the measurement, Access Point  recommends you to do it with speedtest or check if your Internet service provider has this service.

When you enter the selected page, click on the start button, and it will only take a few seconds to find out the speed at which your device is connected.

How do you know if the results are good?

It will depend on the page you have used for the measurement, however the data is most commonly expressed in Mbps.

It is very ambiguous to define if your internet speed is good, it will depend on what you want to do with your service: for example, for video streaming, a good speed varies between 3 Mbps and 25 Mbps, depending on the quality of video you want to watch, while for music streaming, a speed of 2 Mbps is enough, and for our dear gamers, with a speed of 10 Mbps, they will ensure that their biggest enemy will not be Internet failures, the activities that require the highest speed are downloading large files, for which a speed of 50 Mbps is recommended as optimal.

What to do in case of low Internet speed?

The low Internet speed of your device’s Internet connection may be because your Wi-Fi is distributing the signal poorly, this can be solved with a cable connection, in case you experience these problems with a laptop. On the other hand, it may be that your modem is deteriorated, or that your operating system is misconfigured.

At Access Point Corp. we help you discover the causes of the slowdown of your Internet service and perform the optimal maintenance of your equipment, so you can enjoy the Internet as it should.
